Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Governess to join our Australian single parent family, relocating to Abu Dhabi in November/December. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to provide home schooling to two wonderful girls aged 8 and 5, both of whom have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The successful candidate will play a vital role in their educational journey, tailoring instruction to the Australian curriculum and their individual needs. This position requires a patient, nurturing, and skilled professional who possesses a background in teaching, preferably with experience in special education.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a comprehensive home schooling curriculum aligned with the Australian curriculum, considering the unique learning styles and needs of the two girls.

Foster a safe and engaging learning environment that promotes creativity, curiosity, and independent thinking.

Plan and execute lessons that cater to their developmental levels and learning pace, utilizing adaptive teaching strategies to accommodate their ASD.

Collaborate closely with therapists, including Occupational Therapists, to integrate therapy recommendations into the girls’ educational plans.

Provide one-on-one instruction, ensuring each child’s progress is tracked and documented effectively.

Organize and supervise educational outings, activities, and field trips that enhance their learning experiences.

Assist with daily routines, including meal times, personal hygiene, and leisure activities.

Encourage social interaction and positive behavior by modeling appropriate communication and social skills.

Facilitate the girls’ participation in extracurricular activities, including swimming, and accompany them to appointments or sessions as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; postgraduate studies in special education are a strong asset.

Proven experience in teaching, especially with children who have special educational needs, including ASD.

Familiarity with the Australian curriculum and its adaptation for individualized instruction.

Strong organizational skills to plan lessons, track progress, and adapt curriculum as necessary.

Excellent communication skills to collaborate with therapists, parents, and other professionals involved in the girls’ development.

Patience, empathy, and a deep understanding of the challenges and rewards of working with children with ASD.

A valid driving license and confidence in driving.

Competence in swimming, ensuring the ability to supervise and participate in swim activities.

A commitment to continuous professional development to stay current with best practices in special education.
